International symposium "LOOKING FOR INTEGRAL DEVELOPMENT. TALKS BETWEEN EUROPE AND SOUTH AMERICA"

Updated: Sep 4, 2021

After many months spent talking about Latin America, AMIStaDeS is pleased to announce its participation as media partner in the International Symposium "LOOKING FOR INTEGRAL DEVELOPMENT. Theories and practices to implement circular and ecologically oriented economic systems and build a fairer society. TALKS BETWEEN EUROPE AND SOUTH AMERICA".

This initiative is promoted by the International Ph.D. programme in Environmental Sustainability and Wellbeing (ESW) at Università degli Studi di Ferrara (Unife), in collaboration with the International University network ROUTES Towards Sustainability, Campus Villarrica from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), the Innovation for Sustainable Development Network, and our Study Center.

It is aimed at dealing with several topics: the crucial issue of sustainability and Buen Vivir, a concept defined between Bolivia and Ecuador in the first years of the new millennium and then spread globally, including the idea of Integral Development which is strongly supported by Pope Francis; the necessary reflection on economy, society and rights in a world shaken by the Covid-19 pandemic; the bi-regional relations of two interconnected continents, Europe and South America, which have long neglected their historical, economic, cultural and political ties.

The International Symposium is a four half-days event with distinguished speakers. The first session will be bring together speakers such as Michelle Bachelet, former President of the Republic of Chile and current United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; Patrizio Bianchi, Italian Minister of Education; Romano Prodi, former Prime Minister of Italy and former President of the European Commission; Enrique Iglesias, former President of the Inter-American Development Bank and currently President of Fundación ASTUR; Alberto Acosta, President of the Constituent Assembly of Ecuador in 2008; and Monsignor Gian Carlo Perego, Archbishop of the Diocese of Ferrara-Comacchio, former head of the Italian Caritas and general director of the Fondazione Migrantes since 2009.

The following sessions of the Symposium feature relevant economists, social scientists, and politicians, such as Francisco Alburquerque Llorens, Coordinator of the scientific committee of the Territorial Development Network of Latin America and the Caribbean; Anna Barrera, Senior Programme Coordinator at EU-LAC Foundation; Jose Miguel Benavente, Inter-American Development Bank; Johana Ciro, Local development agent (depopulation) and member of the Hilar la vida collective; Stephany Griffith-Jones, currently financial markets director at the Initiative for Policy Dialogue, based at Columbia University; Annalisa Primi, OECD Head of Economic Transformation and Development Division and many more.
